Happy Superbowl!

Happy Superbowl, blog world! If you know me, you know I am a huge football fan. I absolutely love watching during the regular season…unfortunately, I am almost 100% uninterested in the Superbowl this year. I am not into either of the teams this year…and not going to lie, I am still bitter about the Giant’s poor performance this year 😦 Wahhhhh….that being said, we’re still having a party with lots of delicious food and my football obsessed fiancé, brothers & dad will be cheering on whoever they feel like cheering for. I’ll be watching the game, but I will also be making awesome wedding crafts with my mom and BFF, Amanda…o yeah and shopping these amazing sales! In case you haven’t read a single blog this week, there is a 28% off sale at Teachers Pay Teachers today!!

Slowly but Surely

This week we restarted our Interactive Math Notebooks. After the hurricane, I didn’t know what I was going to do about them. I assumed they were all gone. Washed away into the Atlantic Ocean somewhere.

To my surprise, some of my students excitedly brought them on our first day back to school! I even had a student tell me that she purposely brought her IMN to the attic when they were moving things for safekeeping prior to the hurricane hitting. After much BEGGING from (most) of my students, I decided that when we started our next chapter (percents) we would start using our IMNs again. Surprisingly, a good deal of kids still had them. Lucky for us, the kids with top lockers got most of their things back. The students who lost their books got new notebooks donated by a local school and we’re off IMNing again 🙂

Take a look at a few of the pages we recently did. Nothing crazy, but it’s GOOD TO BE BACK!  (pages can be found in my Percents Notes and Activities Pack)

As for the new year, I am glad to be back at school. I love the fresh start that comes with a new year. I am trying to stay on top of grades and paperwork and eating healthy….IMG_9761

Well, Hello!

It’s been too long. I miss my dear bloggy! I am so sorry I haven’t been around forever! I am making it my New Year’s Resolution to blog a little more 🙂 I thought I would share a little Math Resolutions Freebie that I made! With so much going on this year, we are still trying so hard to get back to normal and I thought this was a good way to refocus on our first day back (not to mention, it will look cute on my newly sanitized walls for teacher conferences).

Happy Day After Election Day :)

So apparently the important part of my post got deleted yesterday. Yesterday we had a meeting with the teachers at my school. I was not prepared for how badly the city has been destroyed. Faculty and staff at my school are now homeless– their homes, cars and belongings have been washed away. Many of our buildings have been flooded. Apparently there was 4 ft of water in my building and we can’t go in until everything has been thrown away (WAHHHHHH) and cleaned. Most of our students are in shelters and now this huge Nor’Easter is supposed to hit. SO many people are without power and heat. It’s terrifying, but overall there was an amazing sense of hope and support. My team and I are already preparing lessons and ways to reach out to our students who are hurting. We have no idea in what capacity we will be teaching next week or what buildings we will be at, but we’re hoping for lots of kids we can love and support.

Anywayyyyy, HAPPY DAY AFTER ELECTION DAY! My fiancé and I didn’t not color in electoral maps last night!

I seriously love election day and I can’t NOT love a president who supports math and science teachers 🙂

Enjoy this Prime Factorization Freebie today! I used this with my 7th grades to do a quick review of prime factorization last year and it was great. Click on the link below to download!

POWER!

Wow. So much has happened since I last posted. The destruction from Sandy was devastating. Floods, fires, knocked down trees. The district I work in is basically destroyed– many of you have probably seen it pictured on the news! There is no running water or electricity and they have evacuated the island. Praying everything is fixed and we return soon.

Somehow my family got power back! We were lucky that our house wasn’t damaged and we’re lucky to have electricity! Thanks for all the sweet comments on my last post– I will be sending each of the 6 people who commented the item of their choice 🙂 The next few days are recovering and throwing my energy into awesome, new TpT and TN products! Hope everyone is safe 🙂

Current Events

I get to teach one literacy class a day! It’s a pretty awesome class that I have mentioned on here in the past. We are currently reading a novel, The Revealers, but we also work on other reading based skills. Each teacher gets a subscription to Scholastic News that we can use during literacy if we choose. The students have to do normal “Current Events” and “Science News” reports for their Social Studies and Science classes. I wanted to give them more creative ways to respond for literacy.

I created 12 different awesome current events responses (ok, really only 11. The 12th is the normal paragraph summary…but hey, summarizing is an important skill too!) Students have the choice to make a comic strip, fill in various graphic organizers and even write the script to a pretend newscast about the story.

Check these out in my TpT or TN store. I am super excited about them!

Oh yeah, first to comment with their e-mail address & the best part about your school year so far gets a free copy !
